I agree we are often illogical and maybe most of the time. But would logic exist without us? I think logic is a creation of man. A model/system used on true and false elements.
You could be right about logic being a creation of man, but it's not something that could ever be tested. I mean, how could we ever know whether it's a creation of man or not? We observe animals and assert that they can appear to behave "logically", but it's OUR perception of logic which leads us to believe it. I personally believe that the "laws of thought" as laid down by Aristotle are applicable to all life throughout the universe.
Very true, there is no way to prove lisleman's thesis. But what I think he meant is that logic cannot exist without us. (If animals are not logical, but we conclude that they are, then wouldn't that prove his point?)
Human beings did not create logic because logic is a natural thing. It is logical that if you jump off a building that is 200ft high you will die. If a cat is put in front of this situation he won't jump because he instinctively knows it's dangerous therefore the cat knows that he is logically at risk. It is only the word that is a creation. Human beings are not logical since they are destroying the very thing that they need to sustain their life, the world and its various eco systems. Animals prove their logic through instinct if they are put in a situation they will react accordingly. If an antelope spots a Lion it will run away because it knows what danger it will be in if it does not. Although people tend to regard instinctive reaction as primitive, a lot of logic is implemented within an animal's decision when confronted with a problem.
